Cancer, You Picked The Wrong Girl
Nineteen years old, bold and courageous, beautiful and wise, positivity flowing through her veins.
Then along came cancer.
She was diagnosed with a type of cancer ‘Hodgkin’s lymphoma’
It started with a lump in her neck
And a few weeks later the ‘C’ word occurred
The word that people are frightened of
She had that word.
A tear rolled down her cheek, but hope remained firm as ever
“No we’re not going to cry, we’re going to be normal” She said to me
Nineteen years old, bold and courageous, beautiful and wise, positivity flowing through her veins.
Then along came chemo therapy.
A treatment everyone is frightened of
She felt weak and dull, yet she stood up tall
With a machine latched to her arm, she played pool
Walking around the hospital with an angelic smile
Laughing and making friends
Why? Because she knew she deserved to.
Nineteen years old, bold and courageous, beautiful and wise, positivity flowing through her veins.
Then along came hair fall
Something that every girl is frightened of
Your self esteem feels shattered and confidence low as ever.
But not this girl
She rocked it, went out bald and took pictures
And she still looked beautiful
Nineteen years old, bold and courageous, beautiful and wise, positivity flowing through her veins.
Then along came isolation.
When she’s alone, with nothing but four walls surrounding her
Her thoughts get louder and louder
‘I have cancer, I am a cancer patient’
It hits her, tears flood through
Her eyes, as her heart aches
It had just sunk in.
As much as she wanted to feel ‘normal’
She couldn’t, she was ill.
Nineteen years old, bold and courageous, beautiful and wise, positivity flowing through her veins.
Then along came reality.
Not being able to eat certain foods she craved
Not being able to go out the same way
Not being able to look like she used to
It was hard, beyond one could fathom.
A few months later her treatment has finished, she’s in remission
Now begins a new story of a girl
Nineteen years old, bold and courageous, beautiful and wise, positivity flowing through her veins.
Cancer, you picked the wrong girl.
